Jeffs Fall Victim To Third Period Barrage; Lose 4-3 at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst College women's hockey team came painfully close to its first win of the season on Friday night but couldn't hang on, as Wesleyan University rallied from a 3-0 deficit with four goals in the third period to hand the visiting Jeffs a heartbreaking fifth consecutive loss.

Wesleyan's Kiersten Von Trap single-handedly plugged the gap with a rare natural hat-trick, scoring three times in the third period, including a game-tying wrist-shot off a drop-pass from teammate Liz Adams with 5:10 left in regulation. Liza Eckels then shut the door with the game-winner, assisted by Regan Schuber with less than two minutes to play.

An Amherst win looked inevitable in the early-going as rookie Alison White (Brookline, MA) set up sophomore forward Danielle Williams (Needham, MA) on a power play goal five minutes into the first period. The tandem then reversed roles after the intermission with Williams feeding White on a one-timer in the first minute and White returning the favor in the slot on a Williams score just shy of the 10 minute mark.

Down 4-3, Amherst pulled sophomore goalie Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) for the final 52 seconds but couldn't come up with the equalizer, as Wesleyan improved to 2-4 with the dramatic come-from-behind win. The loss was all too familiar for the Jeffs, who fell victim to a similar game-deciding goal with one second remaining in regulation in a 3-2 loss at Hamilton College on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 6 for its first home game of the season against Union College at 7:30 p.m.
