AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's volleyball team charged out to a two-game lead, but Wellesley College rallied back and knocked off the Jeffs in a 3-2 thriller (27-30, 25-30, 30-23, 30-25, 15-9) in pool play of the 15-team Hall of Fame Tournament on Friday night.
Amherst, 3-1 winners over Brandeis in the evening's first match (30-24, 28-30, 30-24, 30-23), couldn't overcome the amazing play of Wellesley's Alison Mostue (Medford, OR) who notched 35 kills and Akiva Kahn (Manhattan Beach, CA) who had 55 assists. Erica Hewes (Pebble Beach, CA) stood out for Amherst with 20 kills.
Amherst will travel to Smith College on Saturday for championship round play after placing second in Pool B behind Wellesley.
