Volleyball Sweeps Trio of NESCAC Matches at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Amherst College volleyball team improved to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in NESCAC play with a trio of NESCAC quad wins at Bowdoin College on Friday and Saturday. The Jeffs ignited the streak with a 3-1 win over Colby College (27-30, 30-22, 30-18, 30-20) on Friday night, followed by 3-0 wins over Bates College (30-29, 30-19, 30-16) and host Bowdoin (30-10, 30-13, 30-12) on Saturday afternoon.

Senior setter Meredith DeMeules (Los Angeles, CA) led the way with a combined 64 assists, 43 digs and 15 kills, while first-year setter Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) added 44 assists and 18 kills. Senior outside hitter Erica Hewes (Pebble Beach, CA) added a whopping 49 kills in the three matches, as Amherst upped its current winning streak to nine matches.

With their 6-1 conference mark, the Jeffs can do no worse than remain tied for first place in the current NESCAC standings. Wesleyan University entered Saturday's action with a 4-1 league record, while Trinity College stood at 3-1. Both were scheduled for a pair of NESCAC quad matches at Wesleyan on Saturday.
