Jeffs Edged by Visiting NESCAC Foe Trinity, 3-2

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst men's hockey team fell to visiting NESCAC rival Trinity College (6-5/4-3), 3-2, Tuesday night at Orr Rink. Bantam senior co-captain Jeffrey Griffin (Weathersfield, CT) scored the game-winner 6:49 into the final period giving the visitors their sixth victory of the season. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 3-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play.

Trinity first-year forward Jeffrey Natale (Hamden, CT) broke the ice 19:16 into the game, sliding a right-handed wrister past a sprawled out Justin Jagher (Framingham, MA), giving the Bantams a 1-0 advantage to end the opening period.

Amherst retaliated with two quick strikes in the second period. First-year Beau Kretzman (Edina, MN) took a cross-ice feed from classmate defender Bradford Craigen (Kitchner, ONT) and fired a wrister from the slot through the legs of Bantam senior goaltender Geoffrey Faulkner (Westerville, OH). Jeffs junior forward Justin Pitrack (Wilmette, IL) redirected a Chris Norqual (Eden Prairie, MN) power-play shot from the point into the back of the net, putting the home team ahead, 2-1. Trinity countered moments later when senior co-captain Matthew Greason (North Bridgeton, ME) notched his team-leading 17th point of the season, blasting a one-timer from the right circle over the shoulder of Jagher, to even the score at 2-2 heading into the final stanza.

Trinity scored the game-winner when sophomore forward Timothy Joncas (Branford, CT) stripped the puck in Amherst's defensive zone and flipped the puck across the crease to Griffin for the easy tap in.

The Jeffs return to action on Friday night, hosting ECAC foe Salem State College at 7:00.
