MEDFORD, MA - The Amherst College men's lacrosse team downed NESCAC foe Tufts University, 13-7, Wednesday afternoon. Jeff senior attackman Harlow Voorhees (Chevy Chase, MD) and first-year teammate Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) paced the visitors with four goals apeice.
Amherst never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter behind a pair of goals by Casertano. The Jumbos rallied to even the score at 3-3, but Voorhees and Casertano countered to put the Jeffs up 5-3, heading into halftime.
The Jeffs pulled away in the final quarter with a trio of unanswered goals to extend their lead to 10-6. First-year goaltender Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) was stellar in net and finished with nine saves, while Tufts netminder Kirk Lutwyler recorded 13.
With the victory, Amherst improved to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the Jumbos dropped to 6-4 and 3-3. The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. at NESCAC foe Bowdoin College.
