April 25, 2002

NEW LONDON, CT - The Amherst College men's lacrosse team cruised past NESCAC foe Connecticut College, 8-4, on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore attackman Mike Allison (W. Nyack, NY) led the Amherst charge with two goals and an assist, while junior midfielders Tucker Sowers (Ridgewood, NJ) and Matt Margolis (Short Hills, NJ) also tacked on a pair of goals for the visitors.

Amherst drew first blood early when junior attackman Chris Condlin (Baltimore, MD) tickled the twine 5:14 into the opening quarter. The Jeffs would tally a pair of goals in the second stanza to take a 3-2 lead at the break. Amherst went on a run at one point in the final half, scoring five straight goals. Allison, Sowers and Margolis each found the back of the net during the barrage, while first-year middie Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO) hit for his seventh goal of the season.

First-year goaltender Cushing Donelan (Norton, CT) racked up 14 saves, while Camel senior Tyler Volpe (Andover, MA) finished with eight.

With the victory, Amherst improves to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while Conn. College drops to 3-9 and 1-7. The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Williams College.
