Jeffs Win Eighth Straight, Defeat Tufts, 3-1

MEDFORD, MA - The Amherst College volleyball team earned its eighth consecutive win on Saturday, defeating host NESCAC rival Tufts University 3-1 (30-26, 24-30, 30-23, 30-22). Junior Nicole Davidson (Los Angeles, CA) and first-year Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) led the Jeffs attack with 17 and 16 kills, respectively.

Junior setter Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) dished out 46 assists, while adding four kills, 14 digs and two blocks. Also contributing to Amherst's offense were senior co-captain Jess Allen (Chagrin Falls, OH) and sophomore Natalie Soud (Jacksonville, FL), who each had eight kills.

Defensively, Quinn and Allen led the Jeffs with 10 blocks and 21 kills, respectively. Also contributing were sophomore Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT), with 18 digs, and first-year Mikela Yarawamai (Kamuela, HI), with 11 digs.

Amherst returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament, hosted by Mt. Holyoke College. Friday's action will take place at Amherst, Mt. Holyoke, Smith College and Mt. Holyoke Community College at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday's matches will be held at Smith and Mt. Holyoke at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The championship match is set for 4 p.m. at Smith.

Schools competing are Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin, Brandeis, Bridgewater, Clark, Colby, Gordon, MIT, Mount Holyoke, Smith, Springfield, Tufts, Wellesley, Wheaton, and Williams.
