HARTFORD, CT - The seventh-seeded Amherst College men's hockey team was shutout by second-seeded host Trinity College 3-0 in the NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday. The Bantams posted a goal in each period to advance to next weekend's semifinal round, hosted by top-seeded Middlebury College. Amherst first-year goalie Dan Smith (Rochester, MN) collected 33 saves as the Jeffs finish their season at 11-11-3 overall and 6-10-2 in conference play.
Trinity sophomore Richard Masucci gave the Bantams a 1-0 lead at the 10:46-mark in the first period, and junior Kevin Hathaway doubled the lead midway through the second frame. The Jeffs attempted a comeback, pulling Smith from between the pipes at the 18:14-mark of the final period, but Trinity took advantage of the open net as sophomore Cameron Finch put the game out of reach.
Trinity junior goalie Doug Kiselius posted the shutout, collecting 30 saves as the Bantams improved to 15-8-1 overall.
