Williams improved to 26-6 overall and 10-1 in divisional play, while Amherst dropped to 10-13 and 3-5. The Jeffs and Ephs will conclude their three-game set tomorrow (Sunday) at noon at Williams.

Williams answered with a run in the third when junior Guy Smith (New York, NY) singled, moved to third on a double by senior Jabe Bergeron (Chesterfield, NH) and scored an a wild pitch. The Ephs then took the lead for good with a four-run rally in the fifth, keyed by a wind-aided three-run home run down the rightfield line by rookie Chris Kenney (Walpole, MA).
Amherst cut the lead to 5-4 in the final frame on a two-run homer by Powers, his team-leading third of the season, but the Jeffs left the tying run on board as Williams reliever Sam Tuttle (Concord, NH) sealed the victory with a game-ending ground out, upping his pitching record to 3-1.
Senior Duncan Webb took the loss for Amherst, dropping to 4-4.
Williams drew first blood in the second game, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an unearned run off Amherst first-year starter Brian Donahue (Sudbury, MA). The Ephs tacked on three more runs in the third on an RBI single by senior Matt Dahlman (Short Hills, NJ), who later scored on an Amherst throwing error, and an RBI single by junior Scott Johnson (Windsor Locks, CT).
The Jeffs made a game of it with two runs in the fourth on a pinch-hit two-run double by rookie Mark Mazzone (Chicago, IL), but that's all the offense they would muster off Williams first-year starter Cory Catelli (Westport, MA), who pitched seven strong innings to run his record to 3-1. Williams tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning, courtesy of a bases-loaded groundout by Smith, and rookie Paul Morgan (Essex Junction, VT) pitched two scoreless innings of relief, earning his second save of the season.
Donahue suffered his first collegiate loss, falling to 4-1. Amherst sophomore Joe Vladeck (Washington, DC) relieved Donahue in the fifth and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings.
Kenney went 4-for-8 and droved in four runs in the doubleheader, pacing the Ephs.
