FROM A CONNECTICUT COLLEGE RELEASE

April 27, 2004

NEW LONDON, CT - The 17th-ranked Amherst College men's lacrosse team won its second consecutive NESCAC contest on Tuesday, upending host Connecticut College, 14-9. Amherst senior co-captain Mike Allison (W. Nyack, NY), who notched his 100th career point in last Saturday's 11-2 rout at Bowdoin College, netted a trio of goals, as did junior Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) as the Jeffs improved to 9-4 (5-3 NESCAC) and moved into fourth place in conference standings.

Amherst poured in seven first-quarter scores to take control of the contest early and never looked back. After holding an 8-4 lead at the break, they tacked on three more goals in the third, two off the stick of Casertano, and cruised to the victory. Also scoring for the Jeffs were juniors Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO), Graham Lake (Washington, DC), Greg Donohue (Bow, NH), and Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN), sophomores Caleb Deats (Austin, TX), and Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ), and first-years Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) and Chris Hofmann (New Canaan, CT).

Conn. College senior Jess Williams led the Camels with four scores, while sophomore Brendan Rampi chipped in three as they fell to 5-9 (3-5 NESCAC) with the loss. Junior goalie Topher Grossman posted 13 saves for the hosts, while reigning Inside Lacrosse Division III National Player of the Week Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) had nine for the Jeffs. Sophomore Raul Altreche (Bronx, NY) manned the final minutes in goal for Amherst, collecting a save.

Amherst wraps up its regular-season slate Saturday at 1 p.m. against visiting NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College.
