Skrivan, Carr-Harris Lead Jeffs Past Tufts, 2-1

AMHERST, MA - Sophomore Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) and junior Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) combined to tie the score in the second half and then win the game in the first extra session as the Amherst College field hockey team evened its record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play with a dramatic 2-1 overtime win over visiting NESCAC foe Tufts University on Saturday. Tufts fell to 3-2 and 1-2 with the loss.

The visiting Jumbos took an early 1-0 lead on a penalty stroke by senior Dana Panzer (Sayville, NY) with 23:55 left in the opening period. Carr-Harris then knotted the score shortly after the break, firing a right-handed laser through traffic from the top of the circle off a nifty feed from Skrivan. It was Skrivan's turn in overtime, as she backhanded home the game winner from point-blank range. Carr-Harris returned the favor on the assist.

Amherst senior goalie K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) tallied five saves in the win, while Tufts sophomore Marilyn Duffy Cabana (Amesbury, MA) finished with two in defeat.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 p.m. against visiting conference rival Bates College.
