Third-Ranked Jeffs Edge No. 10 Hamilton in Season Opener

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - The third-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team opened its season with a narrow 7-6 victory over 10th-ranked non-conference foe Hamilton College on Monday in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Jeffs rallied from a 6-2 second-half deficit as junior Caitie Parker (Bethesda, MD) notched the game-winner with just 5:07 left in regulation.

Parker put Amherst on top early, scoring just 34 seconds after the opening draw off an assist from junior Scotty Hanley (Baltimore, MD). Hamilton responded with a pair of goals just before the 20-minute mark to take a 2-1 advantage. Amherst sophomore Lauren Dudley (Baltimore, MD) evened the count with a free-position tally with 9:13 left in the first half, but the Continentals answered with four straight scores, taking a 6-2 edge with just 13:45 remaining in regulation.

Sophomore Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ) sparked the Jeffs' comeback with back-to-back unassisted goals, and Hanley cut the lead to one with a free-position score. Dudley notched her second game-tying score with just over seven minutes left, and Parker tallied the game-winner off a free-position opportunity.

Sophomore Rachel Lewis (Denver, CO) dished out an assist, while sophomores Liz Wise (Scarsdale, NY) and Maggie Roth (Berwyn, PA) paced the Amherst defense with five and three caused turnovers, respectively, and three ground balls apiece. Senior co-captain netminder Liv D'Ambrosio (Farmington, CT) tallied seven saves.

Amherst returns to action Thursday at 2 p.m. against St. Lawrence University in West Palm Beach, Florida.
