Third-Seeded Jeffs Fall in NESCAC Tournament Championship to Top-Seeded Middlebury, 10-2

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The third-seeded Amherst College women's lacrosse team suffered a 10-2 defeat to top-seeded Middlebury College in the NESCAC Tournament Championship on Sunday. The Panthers (14-1) outshot Amherst 35-15 en route to their fifth straight conference title and also earned an automatic bid to their 12th straight NCAA Division III Tournament. Amherst fell to 12-3 and awaits word of an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Amherst kept it close early as junior Caitie Parker (Bethesda, MD) notched a free-position tally at the 23:48-mark to cut the lead to 2-1, and after a third Middlebury score, sophomore Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ) netted an unassisted goal to make it 3-2. However, that would cap the Jeffs' scoring as Middlebury would go on to finish the half with a 7-2 edge and blank Amherst 3-0 after the break.

Amherst senior Liv D'Ambrosio (Farmington, CT) gave an outstanding effort in goal, collecting 15 saves. Claire Edelen and Alison Perencevich tallied three goals apiece to lead the Panthers, while Schuyler Winstead dished out four assists. Middlebury goalie Johanna Rosenfield finished with 10 saves.
