CLINTON, N.Y. – The Amherst College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the campus of Hamilton College Saturday, topping the host Continentals 3-0 before falling to SUNY New Paltz, 3-1. The Jeffs moved to 6-4 (2-2 NESCAC) with the busy day.
AMHERST 3, HAMILTON 0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22)
Emily Waterhouse '13 recorded a match-high 11 kills and added 15 digs as Amherst raced to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22) victory over Hamilton in its first of two contests on the day. The win evened the Jeffs' NESCAC mark at 2-2 while dropping the Continentals to 1-3 in conference play (6-8 overall).
Abigail Hunter '13 led the Jeffs with a .292 attack percentage in the opener while recording eight kills. Nicole Carter '16 notched a match-high 26 assists while Katie Warshaw '16 equaled Waterhouse with 15 digs. Brenna Corrigan led Hamilton with nine kills and Anna Brown totaled a match-high 26 digs for the Continentals.
NEW PALTZ 3, AMHERST 1 (25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23)
Amherst kept it close in every set of the nightcap, but the Hawks (16-3) were ultimately too much to handle, taking the opening two sets before rallying from a Lord Jeff victory in the third to finish off the 3-1 non-conference victory.
Lizzie Ahern '16 led Amherst with 12 kills, while Carter turned in a stellar all-around effort with 36 assists and 16 digs. Waterhouse chipped in 11 kills and 11 digs for the Jeffs.
Amherst returns to the court Friday when it hosts Wesleyan in a 7 p.m. match in LeFrak Gym.
