Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Cameron Bean '17 scored twice on corner kick services by Forest Sisk '17 to help the No. 11 Amherst College men's soccer team down Elms College, 3-0, in Wednesday evening's non-conference tilt at Leary Field.

With the win, Amherst improves to 8-0-2 on the season, while Elms moves to 4-6-2 overall.

Amherst struck in the 18th minute of play when Greg Singer '16 chipped a ball into the box that first-year forward Kieran Bellew fired low into the left hand corner to give the Jeffs a 1-0 lead.

The Purple & White found the back of the net again in the 31st minute of action when Sisk lofted one of Amherst's six corners in the half to the foot of Bean whose shot found the nylon to extend the lead to 2-0.

Amherst held a 9-7 edge in shots as both Thomas Bull '16 and Blazers' net-minder Nick Pennant were called into action three times during the first stanza.

In the second half, the Jeffs continued to apply pressure to the Elms backline, outshooting the Blazers, 9-2 in the period.

Sisk and Bean combined for a second goal in the 70th minute, again following a corner kick delivery. The goal capped the scoring, but Amherst had a very good chance to score a fourth late in the contest as Haskel fired a shot that Pennant parried right into the path of Lee Owen '18 but another save kept the score at 3-0.

Christopher Martin '17, Tommy Haskel '16 and Sam Malnik '18 had three shots each for the Jeffs in the win, while Bull finished with five saves to preserve the shutout victory.

Bobby Zaino and Connor O'Grady each fired two of Elms' nine shots, while Pennant finished with six saves in the losing effort.

The Amherst backline of Bean, Rohan Sood '17, Justin Aoyama '17, Bryce Ciambella and Sisk continued its stellar work and helped post the Purple & White's fifth clean sheet of the season.

Amherst is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 11 when it hosts Colby at 2:30 p.m. at Hitchcock Field in NESCAC action.
