Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – Harry Roberson '18 and Sam Ellinwood '18 recorded two hits apiece as the Amherst College baseball team notched four runs in the fifth inning en route to wrapping up its Spring Break trip with a 4-0 victory over Augustana on March 20.
The Purple & White now stand at 8-1 overall and will return to Memorial Field for its home opener on Saturday, March 26 against Endicott.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Purple & White tallied four runs on six hits, with Roberson and Ellinwood notching two apiece and Anthony Spina '17 and Dave Cunningham '16 each adding another.
- Spina opened scoring for Amherst, sending a leadoff hit over the fence in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Purple & White a 1-0 lead.
- Later in the fifth with Cunningham and Ellinwood on base via a walk and a hit by pitch and two outs in the inning, Roberson came up big for the Purple & White, notching a triple to score both runners. Taking advantage of an error by the second baseman, Roberson would also score on the play to give Amherst a 4-0 edge.
- Senior Riley Streit (1-0) tossed a complete game for the Purple & White, striking out four batters and allowing four hits and no runs in nine innings to earn his first win of the season.
- The victory marked Amherst's first shutout since the 2014 season when they blanked Middlebury 3-0 on April 18.
