Springfield, Mass. - Â The Springfield College women's lacrosse program dropped a non-conference matchup with No.9 Amherst College, 16-1, on Wednesday night at Stagg Field.Â
The loss evens the Pride out at 2-2 on the year, while Amherst, which was ranked ninth overall in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Asssociation (IWLCA) Division III national poll, improves to 2-0. The Mammoths outshot Springfield, 31-12, while both teams pulled in 15 ground balls.Â
In the cage, Brenna Keefe (Acton, Mass.) pulled in 10 saves on the day. Katie Campbell (Somers, N.Y.) finished with three draw controls, two caused turnovers, and one groundball. Gabby Fogg (Kennebunk, Maine) scored one goal, increasing her season total to seven goals. The Sports Biology major also secured three ground balls and two draw controls.Â
The Mammoths started off the game with four unanswered strikes, taking a 4-0 lead with 24:12 remaining in the first half. Claire Dunbar scored on back-to-back goals at the 28:17 mark, then again, at 27:47. At 22:40, Fogg sliced to the crease for an unassisted score for Springfield to make the game 4-1. From there, the Mammoths rattled off eight goals, highlighted by the play of Becky Kendall. Kendall contributed three goals over seven-minute span. At 2:55, Sydney Larsen came into the shooting circle and found space, but Keefe would make a save to keep Amherst at bay going into the half.Â
In the second half, Amherst struck first, at 25:44, off the stick of Katherine Malone courtesy of a feed from Larsen, which pushed the score to 13-1. The Mammoths would look to attack at 21:52, but Keefe made another great save. Keefe finished the second half with eight of her 10 saves. Amherst would find offense from Dani Tommaso, Malone, and Marina Bevaqua to finish out the game pushing the score to 16-1.Â
