BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Mammoths then traveled to Morrell Gymnasium at Bowdoin College on Saturday and suffered their second setback of the weekend with a 3-0 loss to the Polar Bears. The Mammoths go to 11-3 overall and 5-3 in the NESCAC and the Polar Bears improve to 14-4 overall and 7-1 in the NESCAC.
Bowdoin held slight advantages in kills, assists, and digs and were able to slip past Amherst in a tightly contested 25-23 first set. Bowdoin used the momentum from that first set to win the second and third sets 25-22 and 25-18, respectively. The Polar Bears were led by Jaida Hodge-Adams (11 kills), Cori Gray (10 kills), Sophia Pahl (9 kills). Ella Haugen recorded 28 assists and 15 digs across the three sets.
Sophie Launsbach (11),
Jamie Dailey (7), and
Caroline Tilton (7) once again led the Mammoths, combining for 25 kills. Dailey also had 14 digs in the match.
Sami Underwood '23 chipped in six kills and eight digs and
Lizzie Papalia finished with an impressive 16 digs.
The Mammoths return to action next weekend October 22-23 at the Hall of Fame Tournament hosted in their own Lefrak Gymnasium. Amherst will play Wellesley on Friday night at 6:00PM and Westfield State Saturday afternoon at 1:00PM.
