Amherst, MA - In the last game of the regular season, the Trinity College Bantams traveled to Hill Field for a 6PM rainy mid-week game. The Mammoths came up short, 1-2, in a gritty battle that was ultimately decided by penalty shootouts. Â

Amherst ends the regular season 11-4 (6-4 in the NESCAC). They will return to action Saturday, October 30
th for the first round of the NESCAC Tournament. Opponent and location TBD.Â

 GAME HIGHLIGHTS
-Amherst got on the board late in the 1
st quarter when junior
Beth Williamson sent a slip pass to first-year
Abbey Kays, who pushed a bullet to the corner of the net.Â
-The Bantams equaled the score halfway through the 3
rd when sophomore Jackie Frank took a shot at the top of the circle that found the back of the net.Â
-The defensive efforts for the Mammoths were incredible, with Goalkeeper
Sara Nidus stuffing two Bantam penalty strokes, one in the 4
th and one in the 1
st overtime period. The defensive corner unit for the Mammoths came up big with four defensive saves in the game.   Â
-At the end of regulation and two overtime periods, the score remained 1-1.Â
-Â In the penalty shootouts, the first and third penalty shooters for the Bantams scored-while the Bantams goalkeeper stopped all of Amherst's attempts, ending the hard-fought battle, 1-2 for the Bantams.
-Trinity outshot the Mammoths 21-9, with Amherst taking the edge in penalty corners 9-8. Nidus finished with 13 saves in a notable effort.Â
