Mammoths Power Past Trinity, 3-0

AMHERST, Mass. – Holding the visitors to 15-or-fewer points in each set, the Amherst College volleyball team powered past Trinity College, 3-0, via 25-14, 25-15, 25-15 set victories Saturday afternoon at LeFrak Gymnasium.

With the win, Amherst improves to 7-1 on the season and to 3-1 in conference play, while Trinity falls to 7-8 overall (0-4 NESCAC). The Mammoths return to action on Tuesday, October 5 when they host Westfield State University in a 7:00PM matchup.

SET NOTES
  • Doubling up the Bantams early, the Mammoths jumped out to an 8-4 lead following two aces by Sierra Cox '22, kills from Jamie Dailey '22 and Sophie Launsbach '22 and two Trinity attack errors. Keeping the pressure on, a 6-2 Amherst run pushed the score to 19-10 before back-to-back kills from Dailey and Anaya Thomas '25 closed out the 25-14 opening set victory.
  • Starting strong, the Mammoths grabbed an early 5-0 lead and never looked back as Amherst kept building on their five-point cushion before tallying the final three points of the contest to clinch the 25-15 win.
  • The third, and what stood as the final set, began with the sides trading points before, tied at 4-4, Amherst put together a 5-1 run to take a 10-5 edge. The Bantams got as close as 14-10, but it was all Mammoths down the stretch as the home team finished off the 3-0 sweep with a 25-15 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Dailey posted game-highs in both kills (13) and digs (11), while Carly Cooper '24 registered a contest-best mark in assists (25).
  • The Mammoths held the advantage in every major statistical category in the bout, owning a 44-24 edge in kills, 40-24 margin in assists, and a 49-29 advantage in digs.
  • Junior Caroline Tilton's .643 attack percentage was a match-high among those with 10-or-more attacks, with the Los Angeles, Calif. native logging 14 kills and nine points on the day.
  • Eva Lekovic's six kills led the Bantams, while Grace Sullivan and Hareena Johnson paced Trinity in assists (12) and digs (9), respectively.
