Robinson spurs Mammoths' second-half comeback in 75-69 victory

Box Score DALLAS, PA -- Grant Robinson scored seven of his team-high 19 points during a critical 9-0 second-half run Sunday, helping the Amherst College men's basketball team to a come-from-behind 76-69 victory at Misericordia University. 

The Mammoths improved to 13-6 overall this season. They are home Friday for a 7 p.m. conference game against Bowdoin. Misericordia fell to 7-13 overall. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

* Amherst led by two at halftime, 40-48, outscoring the host Cougars 16-5 over the final minutes to take the lead on a Garrett Day jumper with six seconds remaining. Day had 10 of his 12 points in the first half, eight during the run that gained the lead back for the Mammoths. 

* Misericordia led 62-58 with 5:18 left in the game. Devonn Allen ignited the decisive Amherst run by hitting 1 of 2 free throws. Robinson then scored seven straight points, turning a three-point deficit into a 66-62 Mammoth lead. His three-pointer with 4:42 gave Amherst the lead for good at 64-62. 

*Each team had four possessions without scoring before Robinson drained a pull-up trey to make it 67-62 with 2:58 left. A minute later, Cougar Nate Kreitzer matched that with a three-ball of his own to make it a two-point game again. Ten seconds after that, Mammoth Beluolisah Oranye took a dish from Robinson and dunked it home for a 69-65 lead with 1:48 to go. 

* Oranye was key down the stretch, following another Cougar basket by grabbing an offensive rebound and laying in two points for a 71-67 lead. He was fouled on the play and sank the free throw for a five-point lead. The junior finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds in 15 minutes. 



BY THE NUMBERS

* Michael Schretter added 9 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the Mammoths. Tim McCarthy contributed 13 points and 3 assists. 

* The Mammoths shot just 34.7 (26 of 75) from the floor, but had a 54-41 advantage on the glass and scored 14 second-chance points to only six for the hosts.
