Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#6 Mammoths cruise past Johnson & Wales, 7-0

ATTLEBORO, Mass. --  Senior Kate Pohl registered her first career hat trick Friday night at the #6 ranked Amherst College women's hockey team cruised to a 7-0 road win at Johnson & Wales University.

The Mammoths improved to 6-1-0 on the season and will host Curry College tonight at 7:30 at Orr Rink to conclude the first semester of play. The Wildcats fell to 0-6-1 on the season.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* Pohl got the scoring started 3:46 into the contest, stealing a clear just inside the Wildcat's blue line, skating by a defender to the mid left circle, and firing a wrister top shelf on the short side that beat the goalie for a 1-0 lead. The Mammoths made it 2-0 with 8:26 remaining in the first stanza. Senior Avery Flynn fired a shot from the left point that was saved, but the rebound slithered through the crease and junior Mary Thompson pounced on it, tapping it into a wide-open goal at the right post. Amherst made it a three-goal advantage just 2:20 later when Alyssa Xu netted a power-play goal. Flynn put another shot on goal, this time from the right point after receiving a pass from Leslie Schwartz. Xu was there to tap in the rebound.

* Pohl made it 4-0 early in the second period, receiving a pass from Maeve Reynolds that she quickly fired into the top shelf on the short side for her second goal of the game. Just over four minutes later, Rylee Glennon's second goal of the game made it 5-0 off an assist from Xu.

* Pohl completed her hat trick 54 seconds into the third period. Flynn fired on goal, it was saved. Carley Daly poked it out to the mid-slot where Pohl skated onto it, took a stride, and fired a shot into an open right side of the net. A short-handed goal by Reynolds concluded the scoring later in the third. Flynn finished the game with 4 assists.
