PHILADELPHIA – A strong performance from the bottom of the ladder powered the Amherst College men's squash team to a 5-4 victory over Dickinson College in the Summers Cup quarterfinals on Friday at the Penn Squash Center. The Mammoths move on to face seventh-seeded Navy tomorrow (Sat., Feb. 19) at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the C Division national tournament.

The Mammoths, ranked 20th in the nation in the latest CSA rankings and the third seed in the bracket, improve to 11-8 on the season with their third straight win while the sixth-seeded Red Devils, ranked 23rd in the nation, fall to 6-13.

The bottom four spots in the Amherst lineup all swept their way to three-game wins with junior Nate Mossé winning at the #6 spot, first-year Matthew Granovsky winning at #7, senior captain Andrew Leung winning at #8 and senior Pavan Nagaraj winning at #9. Sophomore Neal Malani was the other victor for the Mammoths, grinding out a five-game victory at the #3 spot with a 17-15 marathon win in the fifth game.

The Mammoths will now continue their postseason run the same way the season began. Amherst opened the season with wins over Dickinson and Navy at the Penn Squash Center on Nov. 20 and now face those same two teams at the same venue to open the national tournament. The Mammoths beat Navy by a 6-3 score in the opening day matchup.
