AMHERST, Mass. --- The Amherst College baseball team hosted Wheaton (MA) College in its home opener Friday, dropping a 16-1 decision to the Lyons.
The Mammoths fell to 4-3 overall while Wheaton improved to 4-5 on the young season. Amherst is at Brandeis Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths were held to two hits in the loss. First-year
Ryan McIntyre led off the bottom of the first with a single past third.
Jimin Kang had a pinch-hit single to center in the seventh inning.
* Amherst scored its run in the sixth. Back-to-back Lyon errors and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with no outs. After an out,
Daniel Qin lofted a sacrifice fly to right field.

Trevor Gasgarth came on to pitch the ninth and retired the Lyons in order on a strikeout, ground out to third and another strikeout.
