NORTHBORO, Mass. -- The Amherst College baseball team struck for a nine-run first inning Wednesday, but ultimately fell to WPI, 11-10, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Mammoths, who fell to 4-6 on the season. The Engineers improved to 9-5. Amherst is back in action Friday for a 4 p.m. home contest versus Little 3 rival Wesleyan.

* Despite the final score, Amherst received a great start out of right-hander Sam Robin, who went the first six innings and allowed only seven hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out three.
