NORTHBORO, Mass. -- The Amherst College baseball team struck for a nine-run first inning Wednesday, but ultimately fell to WPI, 11-10, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
It was the fourth straight loss for the Mammoths, who fell to 4-6 on the season. The Engineers improved to 9-5. Amherst is back in action Friday for a 4 p.m. home contest versus Little 3 rival Wesleyan.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

Jackson Reydel had a two-run single and
Jack Boyle a two-run triple in the big first inning for the Mammoths, who sent 12 men to the plate in the frame. Boyle, who went 3 for 5 in the game, had two hits and scored twice.
Luke Padian and
Daniel Qin added RBI-singles in the outburst. Amherst had six hits in the inning.
* Despite the final score, Amherst received a great start out of right-hander
Sam Robin, who went the first six innings and allowed only seven hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out three.
* With their lead cut to 9-7, Amherst picked up what was then a key insurance run in the eighth when
Ryan McIntyre singled home Boyle.
