WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Tied 5-5 after 5 innings Friday, the Amherst College baseball team's line-up got busy, scoring 11 runs on 14 hits over the final four frames to pull away for a crucial 16-7 victory over rival Williams at the Ephs' Bobby Coombs Field.
The first three batters in the Mammoths' line-up -- first-years
Ryan McIntyre and Jack McDemorr along with junior
Jackson Reydel -- were each 3 for 6 at the plate. Senior
Chris Murphy also tossed in a 3 for 6 day from the dish.
The win improved the Mammoths to 12-16-1 overall and 3-7 in NESCAC divisional play while the Ephs slipped to 8-15 overall, 2-7 in the NESCAC West, The two rivals are back at in Saturday for a twinbill at Amherst's Memorial Field beginning at 1 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* After Williams scored three times in its half of the fifth to tie the score 5-5, the Mammoths responded with four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-5 lead and never look back.
* Murphy ignited the big frame with a lead-off double down the right-field line, One out later,
Jack Dove reached on an infield single as Murphy scored the go-ahead run on an error.
Christian Fagnant, McIntyre and McDermott all had RBI-singles later in the frame to give Amherst a 9-5 lead.
* The Mammoths increased that lead to 11-5 in the 7th when, with one out, Murphy ripped a double down the left-field line. A
Daniel Qin single moved him to third, and Qin took second on a wild pitch. Dove scored both runners with a single. With two outs, McIntyre ripped a single that scored Dove for a 12-5 advantage.

* McIntyre finished 3 for 6 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. McDermott was 3 for 6 with a double, triple, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Reydel was 3 for 6 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Murphy was 3 for 6 with 2 doubles, an RBI and 2 runs scored.
Luke Padian was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Qin was 2 for 5 with a double and 2 runs scored. Dove was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Fagnant was 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored and 3 walks.
Jack Boyle was 1 for 3 as every player in the Amherst line-up had at least one hit.

Nick Giattino improved to 4-3 with seven solid innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs, all earned, while walking three and striking out three.
