#2 Mammoths settle for 1-1 draw with #5 Panthers

AMHERST, Mass. – The second-ranked Mammoths skated to a 1-1 overtime tie with conference rival Middlebury at Orr Rink Saturday afternoon.
 
With the tie, the Mammoths move to 5-0-1 and the Panthers move to 4-2-1. Amherst will face the Manhattanville College Valiants next Friday, December 8 at 7 pm for its Pink in the Rink Game back at Orr Rink.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
 
* With 11:21 left in the first period Jayna Park stole the puck from Kate Flynn as she was about to shoot. Park found Mary Thompson who shot just left of the Panthers' goal.
 
* On a power play for Amherst, 11:35 into the game, the Panthers had their first real chance at goal. Jordan Hower stole the puck from the Mammoths right in front of the goal, shooting just wide of the left side of the net.
 
* The Panthers started the second period hot, with a shot from Audrey Lazar twelve seconds into the period, and then another from Cece Ziegler from the left shooting high. Both shots were saved by goalkeeper Natalie Stott.
 
* With 16:24 left in the second period, on a power play for Middlebury, Sabrina Kim fed the puck across the goal to Olivia McManus who was able to find the back of the net, scoring the first goal of the game.
 
* With 1:22 left, Thompson shot from far left. Her shot was rebounded and found by Cara Mancini right in front of the goal, who netted the puck for her first career goal, leveling the score.
 
* In the third period, with 13:02 left Hower, on a breakaway, shot from the right, but Stott dove out covering the puck.
 
* With 34.7 seconds left in regulation time, the Mammoths almost net a goal with a shot from Gretchen Dann and Alyssa Xu from right in front of the goal. Panthers goalkeeper Sophia Will was able to dive out and cover the puck stopping their shots.
 
* With 40 seconds left in overtime Kim raced down left shooting to the middle of the goal, but was stopped by Stott.
 
* Glennon answered with a shot from in the front of the Panthers goal with 10 seconds left in overtime. She was stopped by Will ending the game in a draw.
 
BY THE NUMBERS:

* Amherst outshot the Panthers 20-12 in the first period. The Panthers outshot the Mammoths in the second and third periods, 23-13 and 32-15 respectively. Both teams had 4 shots in overtime.

* The Mammoths won 38 of the 52 face-offs, with Maeve Reynolds winning 15.

* Middlebury was whistled for 3 penalties, the Mammoths' 2.

* Stott made 37 saves, 20 in the third and overtime periods combined, and Will made 26.
