AME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
* Hits were hard to come by in the opener as Amherst sophomore
Dani Torres Werra dueled with Colby hurler Abby Orso.
* The Mammoths had a couple of chances to score early on. In the second,
Randi Finkelstein and
Jess Butler drew back-to-back walks with no outs but the Mammoths could not score. In the fifth,
Abby Moravek had a lead-off single and was sacrificed to second by
Devynn Wilderman. Taketa chopped a ball too short and did not draw a throw as the fielder elected to keep pinch-runner
Abby Kong at second. But Orso retired the next two batters to end the threat.
* Finally, in the seventh, the Mammoths broke through. Moravek drew a lead-off walk and Wilderman sacrificed her to second again. Taketa grounded out to third as Moravek took third with two outs. Lovejoy came through in a clutch situation, singling home the game's only run.
* In the bottom of the seventh Torres Werra allowed a lead-off single but got a pop-up and then struck out the final two batters to end the contest. She allowed only four hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out six to record the shutout.
* Taketa, Lovejoy,
Sadie Pool, Autumn, and Moravek had the hits for Amherst.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
* It was another scoreless pitcher's dual for three innings between Moravek and Colby's Sam Ahlholm. The Mules broke it open with three in the bottom of the fourth on two, two-out extra-base hits and a two-out error. They added four more in the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth that ended the game via the eight-run mercy rule.
* Amherst was held to a single hit, a double by
Randi Finkelstein.
* Moravek pitched the first four innings, allowing two earned runs and taking the loss.
Audrey Orlowski hurled the final 1 2/3 frames.
