Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#12 Amherst remains unbeaten with 3-0 shutout of Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The 12th-ranked Amherst College men's soccer team took down Manhattanville College, notching a 3-0 win in their third straight road game to start the season.

The Mammoths (2-0-1) continue their road stretch at Tufts on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. NESCAC bout at Bello Field.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Mammoths found the opener after only 10 minutes of play. After Ada Okorogheye won a throw on the left sideline, a long Declan Sung throw found the head of Simon Kalinauskas. The center back flicked the ball over the Manhattanville keeper for a 1-0 lead.

* The Mammoths doubled their lead just 10 minutes later. Ignacio Cubeddu sent in a tantalizing corner that the Valiants defense could not clear cleanly. That missed clearance fell nicely for Mohammed Nuhu, who tucked it away to make it 2-0.

* The Mammoths almost added a third in the 33rd minute, but Fynn Hayton-Ruffner's shot rolled just to the left of a wide-open net after he beat the Valiants' goalkeeper.

* Amherst made it 3-0 just before halftime, with another scrum inside the 18-yard box off a corner ending with a tidy finish from first-year Riley Priddy.

* After their offensive flurry in the first half, the Mammoths' attack cooled off in the second, with chances few and far between, but strong defense preserved the lead and sealed the victory.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Today's game was the third meeting in three seasons for the two programs with the Mammoths winning all three contests.

* The Mammoths outshot the Valiants, 19-9, during the contest, taking 14 shots in the first half alone, and held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.

* First-years Nuhu and Priddy each scored the first goals of their collegiate careers.

* Sophomore Juan Perez and senior Max Landa combined for the shutout. Perez made two saves in the first half to earn the win and Landa made three saves in the second.
