CLINTON, N.Y. -- It was a thrilling rollercoaster ride, but in the end it ended too son as the Amherst College voleyball fell in five sets to Hamilton College Friday in the conference opener for the Mammoths.
Amherst fell to 2-4 on the season. They are at Middlebury Saturday for a 2 p.m. match.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
* After dropping set one 25-21, the Mammoths found themselves trailing set two, 10-7. They climbed back into it and were tied 15-all. Kills from
Kinsey Cronin and
Charlotte Rasmussen made it 17-15 Amherst. Hamilton regrouped to take a 23-22 lead, but an
Anaya Thomas kill tied the set, and back-to-back kills from Rasmussen gave the Mammoths a dramatic win.
* The Mammoths were clinging to a 12-10 advantage in the third set when they erupted for seven straight points. Amherst cruised the rest of the set en route to a 25-13 decision. The Mammoths hit .452 as a team in the third set with 16 kills and just two errors in 31 attempts.
* Hamilton jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never trailed in the fourth set. Eventually the cushion grew to 15 points at 22-7 before the Continentals posted a 25-11 triumph. Hamilton recorded 26 kills and just two errors in the last two sets.
* In the decisive fifth set the score was tied at 3-3, and then Hamilton took control by scoring eight of the next nine points. Carman ended the match with a kill that made the score 15-7.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Thomas paced the Mammoths with 15 kills and 13 digs.
* Rasmussen pounded 15 kills and Cronin had 10 to go along with five blocks.

Katelyn Hamasaki served five aces and
Lizzie Papalia led all players with 25 digs.
