AMHERST, Mass. -- Senior Captain
Abby Schwartz scored 15 minutes and 15 seconds into the first half Saturday, giving the 10th ranked Amherst College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Bates College in the mammoths first home game on Hitchcock Field.
Amherst improved to 6-0-1 on the season. The Mammoths will host Colby Sunday at 1 p.m. Bates fell to 1-3-2.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths took 4 shots in the first half, the second of which came off
Abby Schwartz, who received the ball off of Sophomore
Brooke Ingemi after Ingemi beat her defender and hit an early service to Schwartz who sent a left footed shot sailing onto the back of the net.
* Throughout the half the Mammoths created a couple of corner kick and free kick chances, but couldn't get on the end of them.
* The Mammoths were had five more shots in the second half and continued to donate possession despite not adding to the score.
* Bates had one good attempt in the last 15 minutes, but the back line kept the shutout, the first NESCAC shutout of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Mammoths held a 9-4 advantage in shots for the game and a 9-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.
