Box Score AMHERST, Mass.–
Mary Thompson's last-second goal earned the Amherst women's hockey team a tie against the Trinity Bantams Sunday afternoon.
With the tie the Mammoths go to 8-1-2 and the Bantams 6-3-2. Amherst faces Connecticut College next Friday, January 12, for a 7 p.m. puck drop at Dayton Arena.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* With 12:47 left in the first period Emma Robertson intercepted a Mammoth pass and found Marta Mazzocchi in front of the Amherst goal. Mazzocchi found the back of the net for a Bantam goal.
* With 12:31 left Robertson had another opportunity at goal on a 2-v-1 with Lillian Cassidy, but they were stopped by
Kelsey Stewart.
* With 8:29 left Mary Thompson had an opportunity from in front of the goal, but she was stopped by Bantam goalkeeper Hannah Leclair.
* With only 27 seconds left, on an Amherst power play, Bantam Paige Kehoe stole the puck and moved down the ice on a breakaway shooting point blank at Stott who made the save.
* With 9:17 left in the second period Roberston skated down the right side of the ice, shooting but was stopped by Emily Hohmann.
* In the third period Trinity started a power play with 13:50 left. Jelani Adorno took a shot from high to the top right of the goal, but the puck was caught by Stott.
* With 8:56 left Mary Thompson skated through the Bantams shooting just wide, the puck was rebounded by
Anna Baxter who took another shot bottom right, but the puck was covered by Leclair.
* With 12.6 seconds left, with an extra skater on the ice for Amherst, Gretchen Dann found Thompson right in front of the goal who found the back of the net and tied the game
* With 3:42 left in overtime, Kehoe took a shot and Stott made a sliding save.
* With 1:54 left Thompson found Baxter right in front of the goal who shot at point blank but was stopped by Leclair.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Bantams outshot the Mammoths 16-11 in the first period and 19-17 in the third, and the Mammoths outshot the Bantams 15-12 in the second and 6-3 in overtime.
* The Bantams won 32 of the 62 face-offs.
* The Bantams were whistled for 7 penalties, the Mammoths' 3.
* Stott made 20 saves and Leclair made 16.
