SPRINGFIELD,
MA -- In an up and down game, the No. 2 Amherst College women's soccer team scored twice in the first and twice in the second half to defeat WNW Tuesday, 4-1.
Amherst improved to 7-0-3, the Mammoths play again on Tuesday to face Tufts University at 3:45 on Hitchcock field.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
* Amherst took a 1-0 lead about 10 minutes into the contest, capitalizing on a counter attack opportunity. After
Patience Kum found the ball after checking into the midfield, she turned and slotted a ball in behind the golden bears' recovering back line for
Abby Schwartz to run onto. Schwartz skillfully took on two players and the goal keeper, finishing the ball coolly into the bottom right of the net.

* WNE tied the game 20 minutes later when Liza Pinette received a ball from Emma French behind the Amherst defense and equalized for the golden bears.
* The Mammoths regained the lead within 3 minutes. A beautiful individual effort from Caroline Colletti had her find the ball near the top of the box, beat her player, and catch the WNE keeper off her line, shooting into the top left corner. The half ended 2-1.
* The Mammoths opened up the second half with a second wind and fire to go to goal. After 4 extremely dangerous chances, sophomore Lomo found the ball on the right flank and drove down the side line to launch a perfect cross into the path of junior
Halle Hanna, who got her head around it to score her second goal of the season and give the Mammoths a two goal lead.
* The scoring concluded with a duo of corner kicks. After her first one was blocked by the near post defender,
Ella Johnson's second corner kick sailed into the box, to
Carter Hollingsworth, who deftly used her right foot to send a shot into the side netting to beat the WNE goalie to complete the 4-1 win.
BY THE NUMBERS:
*The Mammoths out shot the golden bears in both halves (8-7 Amherst in the first half, 15-1 in the second).
* Amherst also had more corners than WNE, nine to three.
