AMHERST, Mass. -- Hamilton scored four successive goals Saturday night -- three from junior center Jackson Krock -- to pull away from the Amherst Colllege men's hockey team for a 5-2 win, spoiling the Mammoths' season opener at Orr Rink.
Next up for the Mammoths (0-1-0) is a home date with Trinity College Saturday the 23rd at 7:30 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* A Luke Tchor goal with 13:53 left in the first period gave the visitors a 1-0 lead, but the Mammoths rallied, scoring twice before the frame ended to take a 2-1 advantage into the locker room between period one and period two.
* Just over a minute after Tchor's goal, Amherst tied the game when
Zack Jesse received a pass from
Ben Kuzma while on the power play and rifled a low shot into the goal. With 2:48 left in the period,
Ryan Corcoran gave the Mammoths a 2-1 lead when he took a pass from Jesse, skated to the top of the right face-off circle and fired a low shot into the lower left-hand corner.
* From there it was all Hamilton as the Mammoths were called for nine penalties, seven coming over the final two frames. The Mammoths were able to skate off all but one of the six Hamilton power plays, but that effort did stymie the offensive attack at times.
* Hamilton scored three times in the second period, all three coming in the final 6:07 of the stanza. Krock tied the game at 2-2 only 76 seconds before Alex Danis gave the Continentals the lead for good with 5:11 remaining in the period.
