Mammoths' offense explodes in 6-2 win over Williams

AMHERST, MA –  A first-period goal from Ayla Abban, and third-period goals from Emily Hohmann, Tammy Zhu, Maeve Reynolds, Genna Pan, and Marie-Eve Marleau solidified a 6-2 decision over Williams College today at Orr Rink for the Amherst College women's hockey team.

The Mammoths (2-0) face their next opponent, Connecticut College, on Friday (Nov. 22nd) at 7 p.m. at Orr Rink for another conference matchup.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • At 4:01 into the commencing period, Mammoth Ayla Abban chased down a pass from Genna Pan behind the net, setting up Anna Baxter for a shot on net. In the ensuing scramble, Abban snagged the rebound and flicked it past Ephs' goalie Erin Pye, giving the Mammoths a one-goal lead.
  • A series of point-to-point passes between Amherst's Gretchen Dann and Marie-Eve Marleau set the puck up for Marleau to lift the puck past Pye's pads, racking up the Mammoth's second goal with 12:02 left in the second period.
  • With 7:22 left in the second period, Eph Claire Murphy fired a shot from the high slot off a feed from Quinn Dawson, missing wide left. The rebound bounced off the backboards, for forward Charlotte Fetherston, who buried it just outside the crease to put Williams College on the board during a power play.
  • Mammoth Emily Hohmann intercepted a pass in neutral ice and skated up the right side, where she took the shot that bounced off of Pye's glove and into the back of the net with 18:29 left in the final period for an unassisted goal.
  • At 4:16 in the 3rd period, Williams held the advantage for a face-off where Dawson collected the puck and dished it off to Katherine Kang by the left point. Kang ripped a slap-shot into the net to put the Ephs into a one-goal differential between the Mammoths.
  • On an Amherst attack, Tammy Zhu intercepted a pass in the Williams zone and fired a shot from the right circle, scoring at 10:03 of the final period.
  • With the Ephs' goalie pulled, Maeve Reynolds grabbed a loose puck by the boards and aimed for the empty net. After her initial shot hit the post, Reynolds collected the rebound and buried a backhander at 17:25.
  • Just 20 seconds after Amherst's fifth goal, Pan intercepted a Williams pass and skated in to bury a wrist shot in the top left corner at 2:15, sealing a 6-2 victory over Williams College.
