AMHERST, Mass.. -- The Amherst College volleyball team lost to Williams College in four sets on Saturday. Despite winning the first set of the match, the Ephs defeated the Mammoths 3-1 (25-23, 26-28, 15-25, 19-25).

The Mammoths end their season with a record of 11-10 overall and 2-8 in the NESCAC. Williams advances to 12-10 overall and 5-5 in the NESCAC.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

* The Mammoths kept the first set close, never allowing Williams more than a three-point lead. Sofia Camilo and Anaya Thomas each had four kills, and Brielle Renwick tallied three during the set. The Mammoths also had three crucial blocks in the set. With the score 22-19 in favor of the Ephs, the Mammoths scored five straight points to make it 24-22. A kill from Thomas ended the set for the Mammoths, 25-23.

* In the second set, the Mammoths had the lead 10-4. The Ephs persevered and narrowed the score with three service aces. Despite a service ace from Papalia and a combined block by Camilo and Kinsey Cronin, the Ephs pulled ahead from a six-point run to make the score 19-16. Charlotte Rasmussen and Thomas each had two more kills, but the Ephs took the set 28-26. 

* The third set showed the Ephs' dominance as Williams never trailed after 4-4. The Mammoths tallied eight kills in the set, but the Ephs won 25-15.

* In the final set, the Mammoths fought hard, coming out with an 8-2 lead. Thomas and Rasmussen had two kills each, but a seven-point run from Williams tied the match 11-11, and the momentum carried the Ephs to victory. Amherst had two blocks late in the set, but the Ephs pulled away, winning 25-19. 

BY THE NUMBERS

* Thomas led the Mammoths with 19 kills in the match. Rasmussen posted 11. 

* Renee Liou delivered 39 assists on the day.

* Cronin tallied six blocks. The Mammoths totaled six service aces.
