Reynolds, Stott skate Mammoths past Conn. College, 3-1

AMHERST, Mass.Maeve Reynolds' early first-period goal helped the Mammoths secure back-to-back wins against Connecticut College at Orr Rink Saturday afternoon with a copycat 3-1 win over the Camels.

Reynolds narrowly missed a hat trick, adding a follow-up goal after Marie-Eve Marleau's score in the second period.

The women's ice hockey team advances to an overall 4-0 record.

Amherst will face Western New England University in an out-of-conference matchup this Tuesday (Nov. 26) at 3 p.m. in Springfield, MA.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: 
  • In the Camel's defensive zone, Amherst's Marleau passed the puck behind the net to Bea Flynn, whose shot slipped into the crease toward Reynolds. She collected her own rebound to score the first goal of the evening at 7:01 in the opening period.
  • With 9:28 remaining in the first period of regulation, A breakaway from Reynolds delivered the puck up towards Connecticut college's end boards for Flynn to skate onto. Marleau captured the loose puck and wrapped around the post, flicking it into the net for a goal. 
  • With 5:13 remaining, Mammoth Carlisle Brush received a pass from Gretchen Dann at the right point and launched the puck toward the net. Reynolds secured the rebound by the post, scoring her second goal of the evening.
  • The Camels ended the shutout 3:15 into the final period when senior Kiley Smith skated up from the end boards and centered the puck to Case Chesner. Chesner went one-on-one with Natalie Stott, flicking it into the top right corner of the net.

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • The Mammoths outshot the Camels 30-22. 
  • Amherst won 39 of the 52 face-offs, with Anna Baxter winning 14 of the 17 she took, and Reynolds winning 15 of her 22 face-offs. 
  • Amherst College went 0-2 on power plays, whereas Connecticut College went 0-4. 
  • Stott saved 21 of the Camel's 22 shots, with a stellar .955 save percentage.
