Kori Barach nets 27 in Mammoths' 69-52 win over Wesleyan

 AMHERST, MASS.--The Amherst College women's basketball team gained possession of the lead with five minutes and 51 seconds remaining in the first quarter and retained it for the remainder of the competition, defeating Wesleyan University in a Little 3 contest on David Hixon Court at LeFrak Gymnasium.
 
The Mammoths (5-1) will be back in LeFrak Wednesday at 7 p.m. versus Colby-Sawyer.

Amherst senior Kori Barach scored a season-high 27 points in the win.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
 
*Annie McCarthy put the Mammoths' first points on the board, scoring a layup 24 seconds into the game. The Mammoths briefly trailed the Cardinals until Barach scored a layup that pushed the Mammoths ahead halfway through the first quarter. McCarthy scored two three-pointers for the Mammoths and they led 16-12.
 
* The Mammoths put 18 points on the board in the second quarter. Barach led the Mammoths in terms of scoring, earning 10 of the Mammoths' 18 points. Maya Cwalina secured a defensive rebound with seven minutes and 45 seconds on the clock, passing the ball to Barach, who assisted Reagan Pahl to an impressive three-pointer 14 seconds later.
 
* Barach, McCarthy, Cwalina, Pahl, Sylvia Liddle, and Elizabeth Cain all contributed to the scoring scene in the third quarter. Sylvia Liddle earned a defensive rebound with five minutes and 48 seconds on the clock, which she passed to Barach, who assisted Elizabeth Cain to a jumper 18 seconds later.  In the final 12 seconds of the quarter, Pahl scored her second three-pointer, increasing the Mammoths' lead to 22 points.

* The Mammoths outscored the Cardinals 22-5 in the quarter, holding Wesleyan to 1 of 11 shooting from the floor.
 
* The Mammoths made use of free throws in the final quarter, with Cain, Brielle Renwick, and Tranum scoring on both of their free throw attempts at nine minutes and 29 seconds, four minutes and seven seconds, and one minute and 22 seconds, respectively. Cwalina scored an impressive three-pointer with only nine seconds remaining on the clock to aacount for the final score.
 
BY THE NUMBERS:
 
* Amherst scored on 10 out of 11 free throws , earning a 90.9% success rate.
 
* Barach secured 7 rebounds and 4 assists to her 27-point performance. McCarthy posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Cwalina had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 blocks. Cain added 8 points and 4 rebounds.
