GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* Amherst took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when lead-off batter Jack Sampedro tattooed a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a home run.

* The Pointers responded with three in their half of the first off of starter Jacob Ribitzki.

* Down 8-1 entering the top of the fifth, the Mammoths had no one on base with two outs but struck for three quick runs. Jack Boyle got things started with a two-out laser past  the third base bag and down the left-field line that gave him a double. Sampedro followed with a double of his own to score Boyle. Jack McDermott then powered a two-run, opposite-field home run over the left field fence to make it 8-4.

* The Pointers responded with three more runs in their half of the fifth to take an 11-4 lead.

* Amherst scored a run in the seventh when Boyle led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a Sampedro fly ball and scored on a McDermott groundout.

* The Mammoths rallied in the ninth as well, scoring twice before the rally was extinguished. Ben Smith and Boyle opened the frame with singles and Sampedro was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. A McDermott single to right scored Smith to make it 11-6.
