AMHERST, Mass. --
Tyler McCord led off the bottom of the eighth inning with his second solo home run of the game, snapping a 7-7 tie and leading the Amherst College baseball team to its sixth consecutive victory via an 11-7 decision over Western New England University Wednesday in the Mammoths home opener on Memorial Field.
Amherst improved to 8-2 overall with the victory while the Golden bears slipped to 6-9. The Mammoths are back home Friday to host Little 3 rival Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* WNE scored four runs in the top of the eighth to rally from a 7-3 deficit and tie the game. McCord led off the bottom of the inning and crushed a pitch over the fence in left field for his second home run of the game an third of the season for an 8-7 lead.

Jack Boyle followed McCord with a line single to center and stole second. After an out, he moved to third on a wild pitch.
Jack McDermott drew a walk and stole second. With the infield in,
Ryan McIntyre ripped a low liner past the shortstop for a two-run single and a 10-7 lead. McIntyre went to second on the play and to third on a walk. After a walk to
Luke Padian, he stole home as the Golden Bears chose to throw Padian out at second base, giving Amherst an 11-7 lead.
* Amherst trailed 2-0 after the top of the first but got a run back in its half of the first when McIntyre beat out a roller to the shortstop hole and took second on a throwing error and third on a passed ball. He scored when Padian singled to center.
* The Mammoths tied the game in the second when McCord smoked a solo home run to left wth two outs in the bottom of the second.
* Amherst scored three times in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead.
Jack Sampedro walked and stole second. McDermott singled him to third and McIntyre grounded an RBI-single through the shortstop hole. Padian scored the second run on a groundout to second and
Jack Dove scored the third when he reached on an error.
* Up 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Boyle made it 7-3 when he launched his first career home run, a shot well over the fence in left field.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Amherst had 10 hits. McIntyre was 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. McCord was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and the 2 home runs. Boyle was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 4 stolen bases.

Tyson Luna improved to 2-0 with two scoreless innings of relief. He allowed one hit, did not walk a batter, and struck out one.
