AMHERST, Mass. -- Michael Aceto and Alex Chang combined on an 8-hit shutout Sundat as Trinity College snapped the Amherst College baseball team's seven-game win streak with an 8-0 victory over the Mammoths on Memorial Field.
Amherst fell to 16-5 with the loss, while Trinity improved to 10-13. The Mammoths are in action for a rare Monday game, hosting Springfield College at 3:30 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Trinity's Will Sawyer hit two home runs, opening the scoring with a two-run home run in the second inning and closing it in with a solo blast in the ninth.
* Trinity scored even runs in the first four innings to take control early. Mammoth starter
Jacob Ribitzki would go six innings total, allowing 11 hits and walking 3 while striking out one. He was charged with 7 runs , all earned.
* Amherst left 11 men on base in the game. In the fifth, Christian Fanant singled to right with one out and
Javier Irizarry worked a two-out walk, but Aceto got
Jack Boyle to ground out, ending the threat. In the Amherst sixth,
Jack McDermott singled through the right side and
Ryan McIntyre worked a walk.
Luke Padian -- who had 3 of the Mammoths 8 hits -- ripped a liner into right for a single that loaded the bases. But
Jack Dove's liner was snagged at third and Fagnant went down swinging as Aceto finish off his six innings of work.
* Chang came on in the seventh for the visitors and gave uo a one-out single to irizarry and a two-out walk to
Jack Sampedro, but retired McDermott on a grounder to end the inning. In the Amherst eighth, Padian lined a one-out single and Dove worked a walk, but a strikeout and groundout ended that inning.
* Kiila Kaniho pitched three innings of relief for the Mammoths, the first multi-inning appearance of his Amherst career. He allowed three hits and one walk while fanning three Bantams.
