BRUNSWICK,
Me. -- After dropping a heartbreaker in the opening game of a doubleheader with Bates Sunday, the Amherst College softball team rebounded in the best way possible, scoring 10 runs in a 10-5 victory over the Bobcats in the nightcap to salvage a split of the twinbill.
Amherst moved to 6-17 on the season, 3-7 in conference play.. Bates moved to 6-15 and 3-7 in the NESCAC. The Mammoths are back in action Wednesday for a doubleheader at Springfield beginning at 3 p.m.

* Amherst trailed 3-0 after two innings but got back into it with two runs in its half of the third.
Heidi Li got the inning started with a walk and Olivia Aitken singled her to second. After a pair of fielder's choices left the Mammoths with one out to go,
Randi Finkelstein walked to load the bases. Senior
Sadie Pool came through with a big clutch hit, singling through the left side to score Li and Aitken.
* It was still 3-2 Bates entering the top of the fifth. After the first out, Emily Nordstrom singled and took second on an error. Nordstrom was on third with two outs when Finkelstein came up big, lacing an RBI-single to tie the game. Pool singled through the right side and moments later Finkelstein stole third. A walk to
Abby Kong loaded the bases. First year
Anna Primozic then came through with a clutch two-run single down the left-field line, bringing home two runs and giving Amherst its first lead at 5-3.
* The Mammoths made it 6-3 with a run in the sixth as Li scored on a
Dani Torres Werra single to short.
* It was 6-4 Mammoths entering the seven when they scored four more times for a 10-4 lead.
Annalise Knop had a key two-run double in the outburst.
* Pool led the 12-hit attack for Amherst, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Knopp was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Finkelstein was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Primozic was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
* Knop earned the win, throwing 4 2/3 innings of one-run relief. She gave up six hits but did not walk a batter and struck out three.

* Bates trailed 2-0 much of the game but scored a single run in the sixth and two in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 3-2 victory.
* Finkelstein led off the top of the second with a triple and scored on
Dylan Briggs' grounder to third.
* The Mammoths added another run in the fourth. Pool led off with a double, Finkelstein walked and
Jenna Holmes beat out a bunt for a single that loaded the bases with no outs. After a forceout cut down a run at the plate, and a foul out for the second out, Aitken drew a bases-loaded walk for the second run and a 2-0 lead.
* Amherst had seven hits in the loss. Finkelstein was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.
* Torres Werra took the loss, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing seven hits and three runs, all earned, while walking one and fanning five batters.
