AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College men's swimming and diving team delivered a commanding performance in a non-traditional dual meet with Babson College that exclusively featured relays and diving on Friday evening at Pratt Pool.
The Mammoths won every relay in the meet as seniors
Jaden Olson and
Andrew Yuen were each a part of three winning relay squads. There were no team scores tallied with the program featuring unique events including 3x100-yard specialty relays and a 500-yard crescendo freestyle relay.
The Mammoths are right back to action on Saturday (Jan. 4), traveling to Union for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths got off to a flying start in the pool with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Yuen, junior

Cameron Aryanpour and Olson took first place with a time of 1:34.23.
* Amherst's relay strength continued in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the B-team of senior
Andrew Bernstein, sophomore

Ethan Van De Water and first-year
Jack Goepfrich took first in 1:26.39. The A-team followed closely behind in second place.
* Amherst also swept the specialty relays, including the 3x100-yard butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke relays. The butterfly relay team of senior

Teddy Sun and Olson won with a time of 2:35.50, while the backstroke relay team of Yuen, junior

Emmanuel Odim claimed first in 2:39.24. In the 3x100-yard breaststroke relay, sophomore
Henry Liu, senior
Tor Metelmann and Nadel touched the wall first in 2:55.30.
* The Mammoths took the top two spots in the 500-yard crescendo freestyle relay as Lunardi, Goepfrich, Bernstein and Odim each earned their second victories of the evening with a time of 4:12.55.
* Amherst swept the top three spots in the 3x100-yard individual medley relay, with Metelmann, first-year
Joel Chen and Sun clocking in at 2:41.84.
* The Mammoths wrapped up the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The A-team of Yuen, Olson, Aryanpour and Van De Water clocked in at 3:10.91 to secure the final victory of the day.

Tyler Palm claimed first place in the one-meter diving event with a score of 234.37.
* The cacophony in Pratt Pool reached its most fevered pitch after the formal conclusion of the meet when the two head coaches faced off in the pool. Amherst head coach
Connor Beaulieu '14 and Babson head coach Eric Thurston, both of whom are 2014 college graduates, donned their caps and goggles to swim a 100-yard individual medley. The coaches were neck-and-neck after the opening butterfly leg, but Beaulieu pulled away in the backstroke leg. Thurston closed the gap on the final freestyle leg, but Beaulieu held on to touch first in 1:06.32.
