#15 Amherst earn first win of 2025 over #18 Bowdoin, 8-1

AMHERST, MA — The #15 Amherst College women's squash team kicked off the new calendar year on Wednesday morning with their sixth match of the 2024-25 season. The Mammoths faced NESCAC rivals, the #18 Bowdoin College Polar Bears, on the Davenport Squash Courts. In a comfortable match, Amherst breezed past the Polar Bears with a score of 8-1.

Up next: Amherst's record improves to 4-2 overall (3-0 in NESCAC play). The Mammoths will next compete in the Mid-Atlantic Round Robin with three away matches in Maryland and Pennsylvania. With just two days to regroup, the first match of the Round Robin will be against the #13 Georgetown University Hoyas at 3:30pm ET on Friday. This match will take place at a neutral venue at the Prager Family Squash Facility on Navy's campus in Annapolis, MD. The Hoyas currently boast a 1-4 season record.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Sophomore Quincy Cline prevailed in the longest match of the day. At the #2 spot, Cline won in five sets in 39 minutes versus Amanda Cowhey.
  • The remaining seven of the Mammoths' eight wins were carried out in straight sets. 
  • The Polar Bears' only win from the match came at the #7 spot. Amelie Matuch defeated first-year Ella Miller, winning the first, second, and fourth sets.
