Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mammoths fall short at Bowdoin, 1-0

BRUNSWICK, Me. — The Amherst College men's soccer team traveled to Brunswick, Maine, on Saturday afternoon to take on Bowdoin College in their second-to-last game of the regular season. Coming off a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Hamilton, the Mammoths aimed to continue their strong form and solidify their standing in the NESCAC table. After a tightly contested first half, Bowdoin found the breakthrough midway through the second half and held on to secure a 1–0 win over Amherst.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The opening 45 minutes unfolded as a tightly organized defensive contest, with both teams battling to establish rhythm in the attacking third. Amherst's back line — anchored by Riley Priddy, Jacob Dinzeo, and Timothy Chow — stood strong, limiting the Polar Bears to just one shot in the first half.
  • The Mammoths also recorded one attempt in the opening half, as forward Mohammed Nuhu tested Bowdoin goalkeeper Alex Ainsworth, who made the save to keep the match level at 0–0 heading into halftime.
  • The intensity rose after the break, as both sides began to create more attacking opportunities. The deadlock was finally broken in the 67th minute when Bowdoin midfielder Tyler Huck intercepted an errant pass and launched a quick counterattack. Huck's cross from the right side found Bowdoin forward Max Cook, who slotted it home from close range to give the Polar Bears the 1–0 advantage.
  • Amherst pushed forward in search of an equalizer, producing three shots in the closing stretch, but none found the target. Despite the late pressure, the Mammoths were unable to equalize, as Bowdoin held firm to claim the 1-0 shutout victory.
BY THE NUMBERS:
  • The match was evenly contested, with both teams finishing with 6 shots each (2 on goal). Amherst held a slight 6–4 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Vincent Akanbo led the Mammoths with 2 shots (1 on goal), while Riley Priddy, Mohammed Nuhu, and Obed Opoku also added 1 attempt each.
  • Goalkeeper Trey Sheppard, along with defenders Priddy, Dinzeo, and Chow, played the full 90 minutes, providing stability and composure in the defensive third to keep Amherst within reach.
UP NEXT:
  • With the defeat, Amherst now falls to a 7-4-3 overall record (3-4-2 in NESCAC league play).
  • The Mammoths will return to the field on Tuesday, October 28th for their final game of the regular season, hosting Trinity College at home. The match-up carries added importance as Amherst looks to close out the regular season strong and build momentum heading into the NESCAC tournament.
