Mammoths fall in straight sets to Bowdoin


BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Amherst College Volleyball team fell in straight sets on Friday night (19-25, 11-25, 22-25). 
With tonight's loss, the Mammoths fall to 5-3 (2-2 in the NESCAC), and the Polar Bears advance to 8-6 (1-2 in the NESCAC). The Mammoths are back in action tomorrow, October 4th, at 2 pm. They will head to Waterville to face the Mules of Colby College. 
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* The Polar Bears came out strong in the first set, taking a 10-5 lead. Brielle Renwick and Sofia Camilo both had solo blocks to start the scoring for the Mammoths. Ellie Meyers also had two strong kills to narrow the gap. The Polar Bears never trailed, despite the Mammoths' offensive trials. The Mammoths scored three straight points late in the set off kills from Charlotte Rasmussen, Chideraa Ngwadom, and Meyers. The Polar Bears took the set, 25-19.
* The Polar Bears were dominant in the second set, taking a fast lead, 6-2. Addison Lau had two kills to make it 9-4. The Polar Bears showed strong offensive prowess, scoring 8 of 10 points to take the set, 25-11.
* In the final set, the Mammoths kept the score close, never trailing by more than 6. Kills from Lau and Rasmussen started the scoring for the Mammoths. The Polar Bears took the lead 16-10, but the Mammoths did not relent with Ngwadom and Rasmussen earning kills, and Abby Nichols scoring a solo block. Zosia Teraszkiewicz had two service aces and Ngwadom had two solo blocks to narrow the gap, 21-22, but the Polar Bears took the set, 25-22.

* Meyers and Rasmussen each had 5 kills for the Mammoths.
* Ngwadom and Gabrielle Hines each had 3 solo blocks on the night.
* Bailey Reid led the Mammoths with 10 digs on the night.
