HARTFORD, CT. –
Tylik Sims' interception return for a touchdown tied the game in the third quarter, but the Amherst College Mammoths ultimately fell to Trinity College 14-7 on Saturday at Jessee/Miller Field at Tansill Muldoon Stadium.
The loss dropped Amherst to 4-4 overall and in conference play. The Mammoths their season against rival Williams on Nov. 8 at 12 p.m.
Marek Hill completed 17 of 32 passes for 141 yards and one interception during the game. Senior
Carter Jung had a strong performance with 6 receptions for 75 yards, while
Matthew Diaz added 5 catches for 33 yards.
Keith Delaney contributed 4 receptions for 23 yards.
Amherst was outgained 324-174 in total yards and struggled in time of possession at 22:53 to 37:07. The Mammoths had difficulty converting on third downs, going just 2 of 12, and were outplayed in the rushing game, managing only 33 yards on the ground compared to Trinity's 129.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The game remained scoreless through the first quarter as both defenses held strong.
* Trinity broke through first on an 8-play, 77-yard drive capped by Jaxon Carroll's 46-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Dinapoli with 3:43 remaining in the second quarter. Max Wallace's extra point gave the Bantams a 7-0 lead heading into halftime.
* Amherst tied the game when Sims intercepted Carroll and returned it for a touchdown with 9:18 remaining in the third quarter.
Hudson Fulcher-Melendy's extra point knotted the score at 7-7.
* Trinity regained the lead with a lengthy 17-play, 65-yard drive that consumed 9:21 of clock. Tate Hoffmeister rushed in from 5 yards out with 4:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. Wallace's kick gave the Bantams a 14-7 advantage they would not relinquish.
* Amherst drove into Trinity territory twice in the fourth quarter but failed to capitalize, turning the ball over on downs both times.

Cato Legaspi led Amherst on the ground with 27 yards on 6 carries. Hill managed just 4 yards on 6 carries and was sacked once.

Luke Harmon had a strong defensive performance for Amherst with 11 total tackles.
Carson Skotak also recorded 11 tackles, while
Tylik Sims contributed 10 tackles to go along with his interception return for a touchdown.
Miles Harmon added an interception that he returned 48 yards.
* Trinity's Hoffmeister led all rushers with 83 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries in the winning effort.
