Amherst Tops Connecticut College in Shootout After Hard-Fought 1–1 Battle

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The #3-ranked Amherst College women's hockey team earned a gritty shootout victory over Connecticut College on Friday night, outlasting the Camels after a tightly contested 1–1 draw through regulation and overtime

Connecticut College struck first late in the opening period. With 18:27 on the clock, Alana Burm capitalized on sustained pressure in the Amherst zone, finishing a setup from Serena Seiple and Elizabeth Bonner to give the Camels a 1–0 advantage heading into the first intermission.

The Mammoths continued to push, and their persistence paid off early in the third period when they went to the power play. At 3:52, Marie-Eve Marleau delivered the equalizer, burying her first goal of the season off clean puck movement from Bea Flynn and Maeve Reynolds. The goal shifted the momentum clearly in Amherst's favor as they generated multiple extended offensive-zone sequences down the stretch.

Neither team found the game-winner through regulation or the two overtime periods, although Amherst continued to dictate the pace thanks to its dominant work on draws. Calleigh Brown won 13 of 16 faceoffs, while Reynolds added an 11–6 performance, giving the Mammoths consistent control in key moments.

Senior goaltender Natalie Stott was steady throughout, turning aside 21 shots and keeping Amherst composed during the Camels' pushes. Her poise carried into the shootout, where the Mammoths ultimately sealed the win and secured the extra point.

With the shootout victory in hand, Amherst looks to carry its momentum into the second game of the weekend series. The Mammoths and Camels will meet again tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. as Amherst seeks to close out the matchup with a sweep.
