Brooke Ingemi of the women's soccer team and
Carter Jung of the football team have been named Amherst's Student-Athletes of the Month for October.
Ingemi scored three goals in October to help the Mammoths to a 4-2 record over the month.
The midfielder scored the game-winning goals in back-to-back games, striking in a 3-1 win at Emmanuel on Oct. 6, then converted a penalty-kick goal in the 86th minute to lift the Mammoths to a 2-1 win at previously undefeated Tufts on Oct. 14. She then opened the scoring in a 2-1 win at Bowdoin on Oct. 25.
The Plymouth native has tallied four goals and an assist this season. In her career, she has notched 11 goals and 8 assists, helping Amherst to three NESCAC championships, and has also played basketball for the Mammoths.
A double major in neuroscience and philosophy, Ingemi has earned NESCAC All-Academic and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors and was one of the recipients of Amherst's Prize in Philosophy in 2024, awarded to the author of the paper, written for a course in philosophy, that, in the view of the faculty of the department, most exemplifies the epistemic virtues that philosophy courses aim to cultivate.
Jung scored four touchdowns in October, helping the Mammoths to a pair of road wins.
A wide receiver and kick returner, Jung caught eight passes and racked up a pair of touchdowns and a career-high 181 receiving yards, plus 71 return yards, in a 34-7 win at Bowdoin on Oct. 11. He scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, at Wesleyan on Oct. 25. Over four games in October, Jung recorded 309 receiving yards, as well as 100 kick return yards on just three attempts.
The Menlo Park, California, native entered the final week of the season ranked fourth in the NESCAC in receiving yards, averaging 79.1 yards per game this season, and fifth in all-purpose yards, averaging 104.6 yards per game when factoring in rushing and return yardage. His seven receiving touchdowns this season rank second in the league and his average of 24.6 yards per kick return is also second in the NESCAC.
Jung earned All-NESCAC honors last season on special teams for his output on kick returns. An economics major, Jung has received NESCAC All-Academic and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
