MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Amherst College men's swimming and diving team set four school records and posted two All-NESCAC performances to move into third place after Friday's action at the 2025 NESCAC Championships at Middlebury College.
The Mammoths, ranked 18th in the nation in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, tallied 498.5 points to sit in third place through 10 of 24 events. Five-time defending champion Williams leads with 788.5 points.
The NESCAC Championships continue through Sunday (Feb. 23) with two more days of action at Middlebury beginning at 10 a.m. each day.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Senior
Jaden Olson earned All-NESCAC honors with a runner-up finish in the 50-yard butterfly. Olson touched in 21.74 seconds in the final after setting a school record in the preliminaries with a time of 21.68 seconds, with both times today besting the previous mark of 21.98 seconds that was held by Sam Stewart '16 since 2013. Cameron Aryanpour was the only rookie to qualify for the championship final and finished fifth in 22.06 seconds.
* Senior
Tor Metelmann twice bettered his own school record with an All-NESCAC finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Entering the meet with the record at 1:50.49 from two years ago, Metelmann touched in 1:50.10 in the morning prelims, then finished third in the finals with an NCAA B-cut time and new school record of 1:49.65.
* Junior
Fynlan Nadel set a school record in the preliminaries of the 50-yard breaststroke, setting a new mark of 24.86 seconds to take the top spot in qualifying. Nadel broke the previous mark of 24.95 seconds shared by Elijah Spiro '18 and Sean Mebust '20 and also set a new pool record at the Middlebury Natatorium. Nadel finished fifth in the finals with a time of 25.01 seconds.
* Senior
Andrew Yuen tied the school record in the 50-yard backstroke in the morning prelims with a time of 22.99 seconds, matching the record held by Kou Li '21. Yuen placed sixth in the final in 23.14 seconds.
* The Mammoths closed the session with an NCAA B-cut time in the 400-yard medley relay as Amherst's stars of the evening teamed up to set a season-best mark. Yuen, Nadel, Olson and Aryanpour touched in 3:17.00 to tie for fifth place.
